LIGO's 3rd Detection of Gravitational Waves

Main Content

In a paper published in Physical Review Letters, the LIGO Scientific and Virgo Collaborations announced the discovery of a gravitational wave signal (GW170104) originating in the coalescence of two stellar mass black holes. Analysis of the signal sets a bound on the graviton mass and shows that all aspects of the observation are consistent with general relativity. Professor Sathyaprakash is a lead editor of the paper.
