Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are emitted by extremely powerful jets from cataclysmic events involving formation of a compact object, likely a black hole. I will discuss possible trigger mechanisms of the GRB explosion and how the observed MeV gamma-rays can be produced. I will also discuss the recent discovery of long GeV flashes accompanying GRBs and their possible origin.
