Searching High and Low for WIMP dark matter

In spite of a wide range of observational evidence, the mystery of dark matter is still present and dark matter remains to be directly detected. One of the most popular Dark Matter candidates is the Weakly Interacting Massive Particle (WIMP). In this talk, I present two experiments DarkSide for high-mass WIMP search and SABRE for low-mass WIMP search.

DarkSide-50 is a direct WIMP dark matter detection experiment at Gran Sasso underground laboratory in Italy using argon as WIMP target material. DarkSide-50 is designed to be a background-free WIMP search using a two-phase TPC with argon from an underground source, which is situated in two active vetos; a 30-tonne liquid scintillator neutron veto and a 1k-tonne water Cherenkov muon veto. A status of WIMP search with the underground Ar, which is significantly depleted in radioactive $^{39}Ar$, will be presented. Also, a future upgraded experiment and related R&D activities will be discussed.

SABRE is also a direct-detection experiment with an array of NaI(Tl) scintillating crystals with an active liquid scintillator veto. A primary goal is to test the DAMA-LIBRA modulation signal claimed to be evidence for dark matter with more radio-pure crystals than DAMA-LIBRA and the active veto to suppress background further. The status of NaI(Tl) crystal growth and the expected background level we could achieve are discussed.
