Cosmic backgrounds provide crucial information about the growth and evolution of our Universe and its building blocks: stars, galaxies, black holes, and dark matter. The Large Area Telescope (LAT) on board Fermi, the most sensitive ever launched gamma-ray telescope, is able to investigate at once the origin of the gamma-ray background and of the IR-optical-UV background. In this talk I will present our state-of-the-art knowledge of these two backgrounds with a focus on the highest-energy regime that the LAT has recently started exploring.
