Research
Overview:
The brain is one of the most sophisticated
dynamical systems in nature. It consists of a very large number of neurons,
and understanding how neurons in the brain carry out computations and how
patterns of behavior are generated by activity of neurons is at the forefront
of current scientific research. The research in my lab focuses on studies of
how activity of neurons in the brain of a songbird codes for the bird’s song.
We use cutting-edge experimental techniques to record from individual neurons
in the brain of a songbird when the bird is singing. Such recordings yield
extremely interesting information about the neural mechanisms of organization
of the song and, more generally, about the mechanisms of sequence generation
by neural circuits. |
